CHURCH LIFE IN HANOVER-WITH-BRUNSWICK PARISH
Hanover Parish is comprised of two active congregations-St. John's and Emmanuel-and is responsible for the administration of currently inactive Lamb's Creek Church. Hanover Parish also owns the restored eighteenth century Rectory along with approximately 50 acres of wooded grounds that is located near the courthouse. The Rectory is the family residence for the priest and has been continuously occupied by the parish priest since 1857. In the past, rectors have hosted special events at the Rectory, such as Christmas Open House, Easter Egg Hunts, Blessing of the Animals, and confirmation classes.
Music In Our Churches
Music at Hanover-with-Brunswick Parish is congregational singing led by a small choir and accompanied by a regular organist. On a typical Sunday, choir members sing one hymn as an offertory anthem and another during Communion. Special selections are also sung from a folder of favorite songs and hymns not found in the 1982 Episcopal hymnal. The youth are also called on to provide anthems throughout the year.
The organ at St. John's is a refurbished reed instrument. Emmanuel's pipe organ is the building's original 1860 tracker organ modernized with an electric air pump. The organ at Lamb's Creek is a pump organ.
Outreach
Our Outreach spans from building projects for Native Americans at Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota and mission work in Honduras to providing meals to the homeless and assistance through King George Social Services. The Opportunity (OPP) Shop has served King George County for almost 20 years. Hanover-with-Brunswick Parish and St. Paul's Parish share this ministry. Our mission is to offer donated used clothing and household goods to residents at a low price and to be available to assist those in need or crisis. Revenue from sales at the shop is given to over 20 local, regional, and international non-profit organizations.
